Throughout the rest of the summer and fall, we’ll be bringing in some very exclusive draft beers from Rogue. The first being the Rogue John John Dead Guy Ale. This version of Rogue’s Dead Guy Ale is aged for over 2 months in Rogue’s own whiskey barrels. Its on tap now so get it while it lasts! This is the only place in Kansas City where you’ll be able to find it!
Now available on draft – Schlafly Dortmunder. This strong lager, also known as Export, is straw colored and well balanced; neither hops nor malt predominates. 5.8% ABV
Our new Gulden Draak tower is operational and online, upping the tap count at The Riot Room to 52! This tower will feature Gulden Draak along with other Belgian rotators.
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a “thick” beer, that you can actually “eat” to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.
Tons of new beer! In addition to our new 8 faucet Boulevard tower, we have brought in a bunch of special treats for all of you beer connoisseurs! We’ll highlight a couple here, but take a second to go to our beer page for the complete listing.
Great Divide Belgica – The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.
Rogue HazelNut Brown Nectar – Dark brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish. Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale is a blend of Great Western 2-row Pale, Munich, Hugh Baird Brown, Crystal 80 and Crystal 135, Carastan, and Beeston Pale Chocolate malts; hazelnut extract; Perle and Saaz hops. 6% abv

“420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture. The notable day for these is April 20.
The term was allegedly coined by a group of teenagers in San Rafael, California in 1971. Calling themselves the Waldos, because “their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school,” the group first used the term in connection to a fall 1971 plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about. The Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time. The Waldos referred to this plan with the phrase “4:20 Louis”. Multiple failed attempts to find the crop eventually shortened their phrase to simply “4:20″, which ultimately evolved into a codeword the teens used to mean pot-smoking in general.
High Times Creative Director Steven Hager was the first person to track down the Waldos and publish their account of the origins of the term. Hager wrote “Are You Stoner Smart or Stoner Stupid?” (October 1998) in which he called for 4:20 p.m. to be the socially accepted hour of the day to consume cannabis. “I believe 420 is a ritualization of cannabis use that holds deep meaning for our subculture,” wrote Hager. “It also points us in a direction for the responsible use of cannabis.”"
Pepper Rabbit comes through tonight to play with The Caves and Minden. The 2 piece, LA based outfit describes themselves as being “colorful, experimental pop”. Massachusetts based publication, The Eagle Tribune, on the subject of Pepper Rabbit’s freshman album, Beauregard –
“Listening to the bright, mellow melodies on that record, it’s hard to believe that there are only two guys responsible for the complex sounds.”
