Kopecky Family Band
Kopecky Family Band
Like all families, Kopecky Family Band beats with the same heart and writes in the same blood. 'The Family' began creating music together in Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall of 2007. What began as late night talks about life and dreams gradually flowed into eccentric and beautiful music that has led to numerous tours, including adventures to CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo, three EP releases, a recent full length album release (Kids Raising Kids) and friendships across the country.

"Family" is a word that encompasses a variety of definitions. With that in mind, let this introduction to Kopecky Family Band be taken with an open mind and with a grain of salt. This family is connected not by blood or by heritage, but by circumstance. No, this is a family bound by the miles on their odometer and by the songs they have crafted over the years. These six young musicians have created a family through their commitment to each other and to their craft. Crack open your dictionary, if you need to.

The Kopecky Family Band – a non-traditional family, at that – is dynamic, and they wield an equally dynamic slew of instruments. Their thoughtful songwriting is supported by a diverse backdrop of sound. And the musical canvas is covered with broad brushstrokes – ranging from clanging tambourines and guitars, booming percussion, intelligent string arrangements, and triumphant horns. These six band-mates – siblings, if you will – swap their musical tools without a second thought, creating an emotive, adventurous, and energetic environment onstage.

In late 2007, founding members Kelsey Kopecky and Gabriel Simon became united with four friends who shared a mutual vision. They planted seeds that have been nurtured for the past five years through persistent touring and recording – and those seeds are rapidly reaching maturity. With thousands of miles traveled, and surely thousands to come, the Kopecky Family Band is only just beginning their adventure – and they want to bring you along for the ride.
Said The Whale
Said The Whale
Said The Whale formed in 2007 as a collaboration between songwriters Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft. The pair's debut EP, Taking Abalonia, featured sunny west coast indie pop, with breezy harmonies, shimmering guitars, and lyrical tributes to their home city of Vancouver. In 2008, the album was rereleased as Howe Sounds/Talking Abalonia, featuring seven additional tracks that stretched the band's stylistic palate to include bubblegum folk ("The Light Is You"), thundering hard rock ("Last Tree Standing") and gentle ukulele ballads ("The Real of It"). After several personnel changes, the group settled upon a five-piece lineup that includes bassist Nathan Shaw, drummer Spencer Schoening, and keyboardist Jaycelyn Brown. The quintet embarked upon a rigorous touring schedule, crossing Canada numerous times and landing high profile gigs at V-Fest 2008 in Calgary and the nationally televised Canada Day celebration on Parliament Hill.

Not since the emergence of John Popper and Blues Traveler in the early 1990’s has an artist successfully brought a non-traditional instrument to the forefront. Following in the same trail-blazing footsteps is ROSS CHRISTOPHER, an artist that plucks the electric violin from complete obscurity and places it front and center, holding down main melodic duties in a forward-thinking alternative rock sound.

ROSS CHRISTOPHER is “intensely original,” creating gritty acoustic textures and delivering them with confidence and zeal. Clearly influenced by groups such as Dave Mathews Band, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and U2, ROSS CHRISTOPHER weaves intricate sonic textures while telling stories accumulated along life’s long, winding road. Resonating with questions, intimacy, faith, love, and tales of growth and transition, the lyrics are ubiquitous and speak to the human experience. With songs arranged to pop-perfection, it’s only a matter of time before ROSS CHRISTOPHER rises to the top of the charts.
Response to ROSS CHRISTOPHER has been immediate, and the most recent album entitled “Act Alive” has been received with rave reviews from both critics and fans. It has landed RC on bills with nationally touring groups such as Guster, James Taylor, Tom Petty, Gavin DeGraw, Kenny Chesney, The Wallflowers, The Black Crowes, and Carlos Santana, which has also helped him perfect the live show for which he has become notorious. Live ROSS CHRISTOPHER concerts are known for gripping electric-violin solos, seamless guitar work, tight percussive grooves, and intense melodies, all of which are performed with passion and sincerity.
If you haven’t already, grab a copy of ACT ALIVE and be sure to catch a ROSS CHRISTOPHER show before tickets sell out, and for the most current information on music, gigs, merchandise, and other news, go to www.rosschristopher.com, www.myspace.com/rosschristopher, and www.sonicbids.com/rosschristopher
